Lansford renews CDs, approves requests
Lansford Borough Council has decided to renew three certificates of deposit totaling $680,451 for another six months.
Last year, the borough took money from various funds, or accounts, and placed them in nine-month CDs to earn interest. The CDs, through Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, were earning 5% interest.
Council approved six-month CDs at 4% interest for its Railroad Fund of $589,389.99, its Sewer Fund of $54,095.34, and its Pool Fund of $42,966.
The other term and interest options available were nine months at 3.5% and 12-months and 3%.
Residents questioned rolling the pool fund into a CD, when the borough needs funds to fill in the pool, and Councilwoman Gywneth Collevechio said that these funds stay with parks and recreation as concession and gate proceeds.
