With the opening of Tamaqua’s community pool just around the corner, borough council made a number of appointments to the pool’s staff.
Council hired 14 part-time lifeguards and five part-time clerks who will work at the H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool at Bungalow Park. Lifeguards will receive $10 per hour, while clerks will receive $9 per hour.
Alex Porambo will serve as assistant manager at a rate of $15 per hour, while Nicholas Wall was appointed head lifeguard at a rate of $12 per hour.
All employees will receive an additional 25 cents per hour for each year worked.
According to borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt, crews have been readying the pool for its May 31 opening.
“Hopefully the weather cooperates,” he said.

Council also beefed up the borough’s police force with two hirings.
Michael Sniscak was brought on board as a part-time patrolman.
A full-time officer was also hired, but council did not announce his name because he needs to inform his current employer.
Council also voted to hire part-time maintenance personnel on an as-needed basis. They will be paid $12.50 per hour.
