Service in Lansford scheduled

The Garland-Manak-Boyle-Zonca-Whitehead American Legion Post 123 of Lansford has announced its Memorial Day service will take place on Monday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Veterans Monument located in Kennedy Park.

The guest speaker will be Kirk Kressley, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.

Richard D. Pogwist, Post 123 past commander, will serve as master of ceremonies for the service, which will begin with the national anthem by soloist Angela Nardini of Lansford, followed by the invocation by Deacon Joseph Cannon of St. Joseph’s Parish of the Panther Valley.

Gen. John A. Logan’s Order will be provided by Maiya Vavro, a student at St. Jerome Regional School, Hometown, followed by a patriotic musical selection by the Panther Valley High School Band.

Rudy Balas, a member of Post 123, will have the honor of placing the memorial wreath at the monument.

Nardini will follow by singing “God Bless America” and the program will continue with Reagan LeClair of St. Jerome’s School presenting “In Flander’s Field.” Her brother, Jack LeClair, a student at Marian Catholic High School, will later read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, following a second patriotic selection by the PVHS band and remarks by Post 123 Commander Nathan Krajcirik.

Dave Padora of Post 123 will read the Roll Call of Deceased Lansford veterans who passed away since Memorial Day 2024.

Cannon will ask the benediction, and the program will close with the Salute To The Deceased by the American Legion Firing Party and the playing of taps.

Residents of Lansford are urged to fly the American flag at their residences, and are more than welcome to attend the service in Kennedy Park.

In case of inclement weather, the program will be held inside the American Legion Post located at 3 W. Ridge St.
