Weatherly, JT schools had no races

There were no contested races for school board nominations in the Jim Thorpe Area and Weatherly Area districts in Tuesday’s primary election.

Carbon voters from Banks Township and Weatherly participated in balloting for Hazleton Area School Board nominations.

Three candidates sought nominations for four-year terms in Jim Thorpe, where four were available.

Advancing to the fall without opposition were Dennis J. McGinley, Gerald “Jerry” Strubinger and Meghan Demshick.

McGinley collected 532 Democratic and 519 Republican votes, while Demshick had 564 and 518, respectively, and Strubinger received 429 and 447, respectively.

Weatherly Area

In the Weatherly schools balloting, there was also a shortage of candidates.

Winning nominations on both ballots with votes were Barbara Sipler and Ryan P. Binder, while Nancy Mulvaney won a nomination on the Republican side.

Sipler had 150 Democratic votes while Binder netted 128. On the GOP side, Binder led with 328 votes, followed by Sipler with 265 and Mulvaney with 262.

There was no candidate for a nomination for a two-year term that is to be filled this year by the voters.

Hazleton Area

In Banks and Beaver Meadows, the Democratic results for Hazleton Area School Board nominations were as follows:

Ed Shemansky, 61; Jared M. O’Donnell, 50; Carmella Yenkevich, 49; Matthew G. Nause, 34; Jeffrey Kubitz, 40; Patricia Tomsho, 37; and Wister Yuhas Jr., 44.

The GOP balloting resulted in these totals: Shemansky, 54; O’Donnell, 30; Yenkevich, 53; Nause, 39; Kubitz, 36; Tomsho, 36; and Yuhas Jr., 48.
