Tamaqua Borough voters selected a Republican nominee for mayor during Tuesday’s primary election.
David S. Clemson defeated Jael E. Houser by a margin of 450 to 322.
There was no Democratic candidate.
In borough council balloting, the Republicans nominated three of four candidates for four-year terms of office. The winners were Kyle V. Oliphant, Kathy Kunkel and George Haldeman, tallying 495, 484 and 425 votes, respectively. Losing out was Mary Linkevich, who had 418 votes.
The three GOP winners will meet up with two Democrats in the general election, Sharon Stokes and Jillian L. Newhartz. They were unopposed Tuesday and received 167 and 128 votes, respectively.
Meanwhile, in uncontested balloting, the following candidates received the respective token votes:
Pamela J. McCullion, Republican, tax collector, 720; Joseph Salla Jr., Republican, judge of elections, 3rd Ward, 175; Patricia A. Burke, Democrat, inspector of elections, 3rd Ward, 52; Maria Derr, Republican, judge of elections, 4th Ward, 124; and Kim Haldeman, Republican, inspector of elections, 4th Ward, 128.
