The Tamaqua Area School Board accepted two teacher resignations, hired one teacher and acknowledged a staff retirement in a bevy of personnel items handled at a recent meeting.

Alycia Gerber, a third-grade teacher at West Penn Elementary, and Kristine Schelhammer, a middle school Title I reading teacher, resigned effective at the end of the school year.

The board also rescinded a motion approving Schellhamer as the middle school language arts department chairperson.

The board hired Rebekah Fehnel of Lehighton as elementary teacher, bachelor’s step 1, at a salary of $48,030, and accepted the resignation of Paula Schoener, a West Penn Elementary administrative assistant as of Aug. 1.

The board also approved the following personnel moves:

• Hired Molly Evans, Elaina Coleman, Luke Frohneiser, Autumn Fisher and Austin Schaeffer as substitute custodians at a rate of $12.41 an hour.

• Approved these advisers for 2025-26: Benjamin Turrano, band assistant; Jamie Mateyak, volunteer band assistant; and Brittany Hill, 6th Sense and ACE co-adviser, and Taylor Stair, 8th grade class co-adviser, both at the middle school.

• Hired Robert M. Van Norman of Tamaqua as a substitute guest teacher.

• Adjusted the salary of William Neal, certified teacher, to master’s +15, Step 12, beginning the 2022-23 school year.

• Hired Rachel Maly of Tamaqua as full-time paraprofessional at a rate of $12 an hour.

• Approved summer school staff for 2024-25 at a stipend of $2,500 as follows: Amanda Woodring, Aaron Gill, Millini Skuba, Sherri Gerber, Connie Segedy, Lynn Deiter, Maria Campomizzi, Jen Curcio, Gina Morgan, Kelly Reaman, MaryAnn Herring, Cristy Clemson, Alisa Kemmerer and Autumn Perdron.

• Approved extended school year staff for 2024-25 at a stipend of $2,500 as follows: Elizabeth Hannon, A. Woodring, Stacy Setlock, Jordan Abdo, JoAnn Dombrosky, S. Gerber, McKenzie Habel, Katelyn Midas, Yarilis Velasco.

• Approved paraprofessionals for an extended school year at their current hourly rate as follows: Kim Modesto, Christina Modesto, Julianna Meckes, Hedy Cohen, Lillianna Birkmier, Amy Walburn, Hannah Murphy, Zachary Dannenfelser, Corrine Miller, Susan Zehner, Madeline Wittig and Madison McGlinchey.
