No contested races in Palmerton area

Complimentary votes were the order of the day in Tuesday’s primary election balloting in municipalities in the Palmerton area.

There were no contests for party nominations in Palmerton and Bowmanstown boroughs, and Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships. However, there will be runoffs in the general election for two positions in Lower Towamensing, the only one of four municipalities that will have a contest in the fall unless successful write-in positions are determined by the county’s election board.

In Lower Towamensing, there will be races for supervisor and tax collector in November, as each party nominated one person in each race. For supervisor, Connie D. Brown, Democrat, and Ian Farrell, Republican, will square off. They were unchallenged Tuesday and received 100 and 145 votes, respectively.

Brown was also unopposed for the Democratic tax collector nomination and received 94 votes. She will face GOP nominee Maxine R. Scherer, who received 183 votes.

Otherwise, here is a look at the complimentary votes cast Tuesday for candidates who appeared on the ballots in the four municipalities:
