Mahoning Township has agreed to write a joint letter with Jim Thorpe regarding road maintenance in the Highland Hills development.
“It certainly needs to get straightened out,” Mahoning Township Supervisor Deb McGowan said.
Earlier this month, Jim Thorpe Borough Manager Maureen Sterner said the letter was prompted by concerns received during the winter from residents complaining about icy conditions and lack of road treatment.
Sterner said Highland Hills is a private development, and that the absence of a homeowners association has complicated coordinated road maintenance of the area.
Both agreed on the idea of drafting a joint letter to remind property owners of their responsibilities.
The letter would emphasize that in emergency situations, such as when a firetruck or ambulance needs to access the area, the residents must ensure that the roads are safe and passable.
