Carbon reviewing trails, open space plan
Carbon County is reviewing its proposed Comprehensive Plan and Greenways, Trails and Open Space plan.
This review, to be held at the Carbon County Planning Commission this afternoon, will take place ahead of a public hearing scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 5 during the board of commissioners’ meeting. The hearing will take place before adoption of the plans.
Digital versions of the drafts can be found on the Carbon County website, www.carboncountypa.gov by clicking on the planning and development tab under the services drop down menu.
The two plans cover a variety of topics regarding ways to put safeguards in place for a sustainable development partners with the natural preservation that brings visitors to the county for recreational purposes.
The 90-page comprehensive plan is a 10-year roadmap to help “guide and development the county for the benefit of residents and visitors.” It was last updated in 2013.
In conjunction with this plan, the 77-page greenways, trails and open space plan aims to “create a comprehensive framework that guides the development, enhancement and preservation of green spaces, trails and natural corridors” within Carbon County, while also ensuring that these natural areas are “connected, accessible and effectively managed to provide recreational, environmental and economic benefits to the community.”
Both plans are being compiled by HRG Inc.
The process for these plans began in February 2024, after Tim Staub, project manager for HRG, asked Carbon County residents to complete a short online survey regarding open space, greenways, and other developments.
The information gathered was used to help form paths for the future in the areas of land use, transportation, infrastructure, natural resource protection and more.
