Packer Twp. Planners to hear CAN DO zoning request

The Packer Township Planning Commission will meet at 7 tonight to hear a proposal for a zoning change.

Robert Yurchak, the township solicitor, said CAN DO Inc., the Hazleton area’s economic and industrial development organization, is going to ask the planning commission to change zoning for a strip of land in the far northwest corner of the township from conservation to light industrial to accommodate development at the McAdoo Industrial Park, which is almost entirely in Banks Township, Yurchak said.

After the meeting, the planning commission will make a recommendation to the supervisors on the proposed zoning change, The supervisors have scheduled a public hearing to precede their next monthly meeting, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4.

The supervisors are also considering amending a noise ordinance to take into account noise from hunting, Yurchak said. They are also talking about enacting a timbering ordinance.

Just Windows of Freeland will replace three windows on the side of the meeting room in the township building which have deteriorated. And a used Michigan loader was sold by the township to Nevin George for $500.
