May 19, 2005 — Eight Times News area athletes earn gold medals on the second day of the District 11 Track & Field Championships at J. Birney Crum Stadium. Pleasant Valley’s Kati Dempsey set a new district record in winning the 3A high jump by clearing 5-7. Tamaqua’s Isaac Dunkelberger gains a new school record in taking the 2A 1600, posting a time of 4:26.42 to surpass his brother Kenny’s mark. Other gold medals come from Northwestern’s Megan Brown (2A triple jump, 37-1), Amilee Schillinger (2A 400, 59.6) and Derek Stellar (2A long jump, 21-11); Northern Lehigh’s Matt Sutjak (2A javelin, 176-11) and Ty Tkach (2A shot put, 52-1); and Lehighton’s Dan Miller (3A discus, 163-4).
