Jim Thorpe area candidates

The three municipalities in the Jim Thorpe area — Jim Thorpe Borough and Penn Forest and Kidder townships — have no major contested races to deal with in the upcoming Primary Election, as everyone on the respective ballots is virtually assured to win either a Democratic or Republican ballot.

There is a minor race to be decided. They are for the judge of elections position in the Southwest District of Penn Forest Township. Judges of elections and inspectors of elections run every four years, and the positions are decided in the primary balloting.

Voting is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

In the Southwest District, Democrat Linda Sott and Republican James Nelson are both running for one four-year term that is available. The candidate who receives the highest vote total will become the judge of elections.

As for mayor, council, tax collector and supervisor posts, there are no challenged nominations this time around.
