A look at Schuylkill judge race

In what might be the first time ever, the election of a new judge in Schuylkill County does not have a contest.

Andrew A.J. Serina of West Penn Township, who is currently serving as a magisterial district judge, is unopposed on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.

That means Serina is virtually assured election to a 10-year term of office on the bench of the 21st Court of Common Pleas bench.

Meanwhile, with regard to Schuylkill County balloting this time around, there are two Republican nominations up for grabs in the Primary Election to be held from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 20. And, like Serina, the winner of those races is all be certain to win the offices because there are no Democratic candidates seeking their parties’ nomination.

In the race for county sheriff, the GOP candidates are Shawn Butler, Frackville, and Frank J. DiMarco, Walker Township.

In the race for district attorney, incumbent Michael O’Pake of Norweigan Township and John Henry Urbanski of Pottsville are the candidates.

Both the sheriff and district attorney positions are for four-year terms.
