Banks Twp. says alley parking causes problem

There will be no parking in alleys in Banks Township moving forward.

Supervisor Rick Porpiglia said the problem has reached a point where action has to be taken.

“It’s getting out of hand,” Porpiglia said. “It’s getting overcrowded. They are parking halfway in the alleys.”

Supervisor William Nice said he was concerned about residents who park in alleys, but solicitor John Solt said the issue was “all or nothing,” meaning if parking is banned, it is banned for everybody.

Meanwhile, Tresckow resident Tom Yesilonis said he is concerned about how people park on Market Street.

“They are parking on a 45-degree angle,” Yesilonis told the supervisors. “I had to swerve for one of them backing out, and luckily, the other guy (on the other side of the road) also swerved.”

Porpiglia added, “It is more like 90 degrees.”

Although Market Street is a state road, Solt said he will look into what kind of action the supervisors can take to address that issue.

The township spring cleanup has been scheduled for the week of June 16-23. Porpiglia said the township will request help from the student body at the Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums.
