Lehighton Borough Council

Lehighton Borough Council took the following action on Monday:

• Agreed to purchase up to $100,000 of police vehicles and upfitting, and to put $20,000 down to be financed over three years. The move would replace two of the vehicles the department has with models produced in the last three years.

• Approved payment application No. 5 for Advanced Pipe Technologies in the amount of $144,486 for the Lehighton I&I Abatement Project.

• Accepted Keystone Technologies bid for pool surveillance cameras, not to exceed $7,415.

• Tabled discussion on future borough assistant and treasurer roles.

• Agreed to hire candidate No. 1 as utility billing officer clerk, at a rate of $26.25 an hour, which will increase $1 dollar an hour in 2026 and 2027, and by 75 cents per hour in 2028 and 2029.

• Agreed to reclassify Jonathan Tracey as lineman II, per AFSCME Union Contract.

• On a 6-1 vote, adopted the U.S. General Services Administration rates on food stipends and hotel accommodations for borough-sponsored conference events. Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky was opposed.

• Agreed to list the borough street sweeper and patrol car No. 5 for public sale.

• Adopted a resolution, flock camera agreement, with Franklin Township.

• Agreed to allow LDI to hang Farmers Market Banners over First Street and other streets.

• Agreed to hire the 2025 season lifeguards list per the borough recreation director of Baer Memorial Pool, pending all required certification.

• Agreed to perform the 2025 Public Works paving schedule.

• Granted conditional approval to Robert Snyder, 103 E. Penn St., for subdivision of land, at the recommendation of the planning commission.

• Adopted an ordinance adopting the 2021 International Property Maintenance Code.

• Agreed to advertise an ordinance, zoning ordinance amendments.

• Adopted a resolution, authorization for Lehighton Police Department to apply for future grant funding.

• Awarded road and aggregate bids, the majority of which went to Lehigh Asphalt, and the rest to New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co.
