A Tamaqua woman is in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, awaiting charges filed against her by Frackville Borough police in connection with a crash on May 2 that claimed the life of an Ashland woman.
Evelyn Valentine Clausius, 72, was arraigned on Sunday before Magisterial District Judge Andrew J. Serina on a charge of “accidents involving death or personal injury,” a felony count.
She was jailed after being unable to post 10% of the $45,000 straight cash bail set by the district judge.
The charges stem from a hit-and-run car-motorcycle crash Friday in 500 block of West Oak Street, Frackville that claimed the life of Beth Burlile, 62, of Ashland.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office said she died at 8:31 p.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.
Officials said she was a passenger on a motorcycle that was in a collision with the other vehicle at 5:06 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of West Oak Street in Frackville.
Burlile and the operator of the motorcycle, who has not been identified by police, were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pottsville, and transferred to the hospital network’s Cedar Crest campus in Salisbury Township.
Frackville police were assisted on the scene by Frackville and Shenandoah EMS, Frackville Fire Department, and Steve’s Towing.
Valentine Clausius is scheduled for a preliminary hearing set for 1:45 p.m. May 14 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli of Frackville.
