Summit Hill woman faces child endangerment charges

A Summit Hill woman faces charges after throwing a large stand fan during a domestic dispute that struck and knocked down a 2-year-old.

Juliet Portillo, 29, of East Ludlow Street, was arraigned on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and harassment Monday by District Judge Joseph Homanko of Weatherly.

She was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $100,000 bail.

According to court papers, Portillo was involved in a domestic disturbance Sunday around 8:20 p.m. and neighbors heard her yelling and screaming.

During the incident, she picked up a large metal and plastic fan and threw it at the man she was arguing with, and the fan struck and knocked a two-year-old child to the ground, court papers said.

Portillo left the home and the man called 911. He provided police with a statement and video of the incident from his cellphone, court papers said.
