Nesquehoning police will be cracking down on abandoned vehicles parked on borough streets beginning this month.
Police Chief Bradley Hess said vehicles that have been left parked on streets for extended periods of time, abandoned, or with expired inspections or not registered will be tagged and, if not moved, towed.
“We’re going to go street by street,” Hess said, noting that there have been several complaints of residents leaving vehicles parked for extended periods of time on borough streets. “We try to address them as we do, but it’s quite a process.”
The borough has an ordinance in place that outlines removal of illegally parked and abandoned vehicles.
Hess said the department will announce the enforcement on social media so residents aren’t surprised.
Street sweeping
In other street matters, the borough will be completing street sweeping the week of May 5. Streets will be posted ahead of sweeping taking place.
Residents are asked to move vehicles by 7 a.m. until the street is completed.
Council said that in the past, not everyone has listened to the postings, causing neighbors to not get the street swept in front of their houses.
“The sad thing is it isn’t even their house they’re parked in front of,” Councilwoman Lois Kuba said.
Because of this, council is asking police to provide enforcement ahead of the street being swept. That includes making announcements, ticketing and towing offending vehicles.
