Traffic signal set at Lansford bridge site

A temporary traffic signal went up on Route 209 east of Lansford ahead of a $1.39 million bridge rehabilitation project Summit Hill.

The temporary traffic light will control single lane conditions on the highway starting the first week of June for the project, Sean Brown, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation said this week.

Construction on the bridge project is expected to last just under three months, wrapping up at the end of August, he said. But the schedule is subject to change, Brown said.

The bridge carries Route 209 over the Lehigh Canal and an abandoned Northern Reading Railroad line, Brown said.

Kinsley Construction LLC is the company that was awarded the contract for the rehabilitation project.

The bridge has needed work for more than a decade, and PennDOT reduced the weight limit on the bridge in 2011 due to deterioration.
