State police at the Hazleton barracks on April 23 released incident reports of crashes that occurred last August and October.
Police said at 6:53 a.m. Aug. 30, Barbara A. Yothers, 75, of Weatherly, was involved in a crash on North Lehigh Gorge Drive, Lehigh Township, and suffered injuries that claimed her life.
Dourene E. Strittmatter, 50, of Mountain Top, was also injured in the crash. Police said the victims were transported by personnel from the White Haven Rescue Squad to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Police said the severity of Strittmatter’s injuries is unknown.
They said the crash occurred when Strittmatter, driving a 2013 Dodge Caravan south on North Lehigh Gorge Drive, failed to negotiate a right curve. The minivan crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2010 Nissan Frontier driven by Yothers.
Police said the Caravan continued to spin counterclockwise prior to coming to rest in the southbound lane. The Frontier continued off the highway. Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
They said Strittmatter was cited after the crash.
In the second report, police said Edward F. Grega, 70, of Weatherly, was cited after a crash at 12:35 a.m. Oct. 31 on South Lehigh Gorge Drive, Lehigh Township.
Police said he suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Lehigh & Lausanne Fire Company grounds, where he was airlifted by the Geisinger Life Flight helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township.
Police said he was driving a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette at the time of the crash. They said they were dispatched to 2160 S. Lehigh Gorge Drive, and upon arrival saw the vehicle on the right shoulder of the road, up an embankment and into a tree.
They said the car sustained disabling damage.
