Pennsylvania State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, has announced the results of Operation Nighthawk, which occurred on Friday and Saturday, April 25-26.
Police said the mission of Operation Nighthawk was to save lives and deter impaired driving through aggressive and proactive patrol and DUI enforcement.
Operation Nighthawk is a specialized and unique two-day training and enforcement program that combines classroom instruction, workshops on DUI case law and roving DUI patrols. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Tom Manion of the Travis Manion Foundation spoke to the participants along with Assistant District Attorney Paul Bernardino III from Lehigh County and Nathan Boob, traffic safety resource prosecutor for the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association.
In total, 78 troopers from six troops (15 stations) and two bureaus, along with 49 municipal officers from 29 different agencies took part in this initiative. Results from the two-day program included:
Driving under the influence arrests, 73; drug arrests, 28; seat belt citations, 19; driving under suspension citations, 44; driving under suspension DUI-related citations, 16; underage drinking arrests, six; other citations, 336; other criminal arrests, 28; misdemeanor arrests, 21; felony arrests, two; warrants served, nine; and warnings issued, 819.
