Carbon County agencies are gearing up for an event that aims to teach children and families about the importance of safety.

The annual Community Safety Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The event is held rain or shine and is hosted by Carbon County Kid Zone, state Sen. David Argall, Rep. Doyle Heffley and the Carbon County Commissioners.

Various agencies will be set up around the park to cover a variety of topics, from bicycle safety to water safety and everything in between.

The event also includes a visit from Ms. Pennsylvania, free giveaways and fun for all.

The event, which has grown over the years, has attracted upwards of 1,000 people when it is held.
