Camper burns in Franklin

No one was injured after a camper caught fire at a campground in Franklin Township.

Township Assistant fire Chief Kevin Lilly said firefighters were dispatched at 10:22 p.m. to Neebs Campground, formerly Whippoorwill Campground.

Lilly said upon arrival, firefighters encountered a pull along camper at 870 Forest St. that was set up on a site that had flames on top if it.

He said the flames started in the unit on top (air-conditioning unit) on the roof to the inside of the camper.

“We made a good stop on it because we were inside; it started on the outside of the camper, knocked the flames down there,” Lilly said. “The air-conditioning unit that sits on top, that’s where it started, it burned into the camper to the inside but it just was on the roof of it.”

Lilly added that while it’s still intact, the camper is totaled.

He said there wee no injuries, as the camper was unoccupied at the time.

Lilly said everything was under control at 11:36 p.m.

He said one else assisted at the scene.

Lilly said the cause of the fire is believed to have been electrical in nature, as it was in the air-conditioning unit, and therefore not suspicious.

“Our guys did a really great job knocking everything down,” he said. “Definitely using compressed air foam definitely helped to put everything down that it didn’t do anymore damage.”
