Monroe County voters will fill two judge seats

Monroe County voters will fill two seats on the Court of Common Pleas this year, with the upcoming retirement of judges Art Zulick and Margherita Patti-Worthington.

Five people having filed petitions on both the Democratic and Republican ballots seeking to win the parties’ nominations in the May 20 primary election.

The candidates for the 10-year terms in countywide at-large balloting are Alexander Marek, Hamilton Township; Jamie Levy, Delaware Water Gap; Patrick J. Best, Stroud Township; Kelly Lombardo, Jackson Township; and Janet Jackson, Stroudsburg.

Meanwhile, county voters will vote this year for the county treasurer and coroner’s positions, both being four-year terms.

In the treasurer’s race are Ira Jolley, Democrat, and Theresa Johnson, Republican incumbent.

Incumbent Coroner Thomas Yanac, a Democrat, is running for his party’s nomination and is unopposed. There is no Republican candidate.

In municipalities in the Times News coverage area, here are the other offices up for grabs with the candidates who have filed petitions to get their names on the respective ballots:

Pleasant Valley School Board, four-year terms, elect four — Diane Serfass and Janet Dooner, both of Polk Township, and Denise Hopely, Norman Burger and Melanie Zipp, all of Chestnuthill Township, are seeking both the Democratic and Republican nominations.

Chestnuthill Township supervisor, six-year term, elect one — Jeffrey S. Weiss, Democrat, and Deborah Modica and Hector A. Ramirez, Republicans. Current supervisor’s Eric Snyder’s term expires at the end of the year.

Polk Township supervisor, six-year term, elect one — Carl Heckman, Republican incumbent is the only one on the ballot.

Eldred Township tax collector, four-year term, elect one — Laura Hoffman, Republican.

Eldred Township supervisor, six-year term, elect one — Michael A. Kolba Jr., Democrat, and Susan M. McGinty, Republican incumbent.

Ross Township supervisor, six-year term, elect one — Galen Ross Balinski, Republican. Chairman James Zahoroiko isn’t seeking reelection.
