Businesses, groups donate free meals, supplies to responders

Local businesses have been generously supplying first responders fighting the Appalachian Trail fire at the Lehigh Gap.

Burger King in Walnutport, Mamma’s Pizza in Berlinsville, Cherryville Pizza in Cherryville, and 2 Brothers in Bowmanstown have supplied free meals.

The Lehighton Downtown Initiative delivered the first truckload of supplies late Sunday morning to first responders fighting the Appalachian Trail fire at the Lehigh Gap.

It planned to come back to its volunteers that stayed behind with at least one or possibly two more truckloads, the LDI posted on Facebook Sunday afternoon.

The group also thanked those who dropped off supplies on LDI members’ porches.

“They are asking to hold off delivering as there were many people donating items,” the post said. “They had to regroup, sort the items, etc.”

The group said it planned to check back again Sunday evening to see if the volunteers were ready for more supplies, and noted that everything will be delivered.

“Thank you to all who donated,” the post states. “Lehighton and the surrounding communities are amazing.”

Seven Sirens Brewing Company at Riverwalk Saloon also offered free hot meals to first responders on Sunday, the LDI posted.

In addition, the LDI posted that with the overwhelming response to help our volunteer firefighters, they were told they were still in need of a few supplies.

Items include eye drops, powdered Gatorade/Powerade individual packets, Tylenol/Advil/Motrin, baby/body wipes, lip balm, foot powder, batteries AA & AAA, coffee.

Please drop off at Styling Zone, 101 South 10th Street this week.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 1:30-6:30 p.m. today, 9-7 Wednesday, 3-7 Thursday, and 9-1:30 Friday.

They will also be accepting monetary donations to help give the firefighters hot meals. Please either send money to the LDI via Venmo at @LDILehighton or mail a check to: Lehighton Downtown Initiative, P.O. Box 503, Lehighton, PA 18235.

They are asked to include in comments: Firefighters. We will be posting pictures of meals/food donated. This fire will last for a while and the firefighters will need hot meals to sustain them.

Kunkletown Thrift Store, 516 Kunkletown Road, Kunkletown, is collecting items for the firefighters. Items can be dropped off at Thrift Store today through Wednesday. If the store is closed, put items on the front porch. Items needed foot powder, lip balm, ibuprofen and acetaminophen, baby wipes and AA and AAA batteries.
