Schuylkill Co. Fair opens Monday
The Schuylkill County Fair gets underway Monday with a schedule full of live entertainment, tournaments, food, exhibits, amusement rides and vendors.
The fair continues daily through Aug. 3 at the Schuylkill County Fairgrounds, Route 895, Summit Station.
This year’s theme is “Flourishing with Opportunity Rooted in Agriculture.”
Daily events include performances by Johnny Peers and the Muttville Comix at 6 and 8 p.m. in the amphitheater, and programs at 6 p.m. in the Weston Pavilion. The Dr. James S. Shadle Nature Center will be open daily from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and tractor parades will be held daily at 4:30 p.m.
Gates to the fair open Monday at 4 p.m. for Pulling Day. The Fair Queen and Princess Contest is at 4:30 p.m. on the Main Stage, followed by the crowning of royalty at 6 p.m. Porcupine Pat will present Ways of Wildlife at 6 p.m., and the dairy judging contest begins at 6:15 p.m. At 7 p.m., Pull Off Productions will present wild street 4X4 trucks, limited pro 3.0 trucks and pro street gas trucks. The New Individuals take the stage at 7 and 9 p.m.
Tuesday is Kids Day and gates open at 11 a.m. From 11 a.m.-2 p.m., a Touch-A-Truck will be held, and kids’ contests will be held every half-hour beginning at noon. Rides open at 1:30 p.m., and a tractor parade will kick off from the main gate at the same time. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a pedal tractor pull, and at 6 p.m., Porcupine Pat will present Appalachian Mountain Olde Time Toys. East Coast Pro Pulling presents a tractor and truck pull at 7 p.m., and rising country music star Jenny Grace performs at 7 and 9 p.m.
Wednesday is Schuylkill County Day and gates open at 4 p.m. A Celebrity Tractor Pull will be held at 5:30 p.m., and Kyle Schutt will present Invasive Plants at 6 p.m. The Livestock Skill-A-Thon will begin at 6 p.m., and Farm Stock Pulls get underway at 7 p.m. An Elvis tribute featuring Jimmy Holmes with The Spin-Outs will take the stage at 7 and 9 p.m. A boilo contest is at 7:30 p.m.
Senior Appreciation Day is Thursday, with gates opening at 11 a.m. Livestock sale buyers will check in at 4 p.m., and at 5 p.m. the 4-H/FFA Livestock Auction and Awards begins. Registration for the 6 p.m. cornhole tournament is at 5 p.m. Dave “Big Owl” McSurdy will present Indian Lore at 6 p.m. The Amish Outlaws take the stage at 7 and 9 p.m.
The fair opens at 4 p.m. Friday for Military and First Responders Day. An Animal Obstacle Course will start at 3 p.m., and Rudy Arceo will present Keystone Herpetological Institute at 6 p.m. A threshing demonstration and color guard presentation of the flag will also be held at 6 p.m. The kids and adult hay bale toss kicks off at 7 p.m., and there will be line dancing at 7 p.m. with DJ Chicken Nugget. Jeremiah James with Augustus Scott and The Revival will perform at 7 and 9 p.m.
Friends of the Fair Day will be held Aug. 3, with gates opening at 11 a.m. The 4-H/FFA Master Showman Contest begins at 11 a.m., and a tractor parade is at 1:30 p.m. Livestock judging is at 3 p.m. A kiddie parade begins at 4 p.m., and a princess parade follows at 5 p.m. Porcupine Pat presents Ways of Wildlife at 6 p.m. and line dancing with DJ Chicken Nugget is at 7 p.m. The Mahoney Brothers will perform at 7 and 9 p.m.
