State police in the region announced the results of the Independence Day holiday enforcement initiative.
• Troopers from the Bethlehem barracks targeted aggressive drivers, speeders, drivers under the influence and people not using seat belts or child safety seats.
Police reported 57 crashes, with 12 people injured, and one alcohol-related crash. Also reported were 34 DUI arrests, 166 speeding citations, 11 passenger seat citations, 21 seat belt citations, 31 occupant protection warnings and 1,096 other traffic citations.
• State police at the Hazleton conducted a DUI checkpoint/roving DUI patrol on July 3 in southern Luzerne County. Troopers said 190 motorists were stopped, resulting in three arrests for driving under the influence. Police also issued 36 traffic citations and numerous warnings.
• State police at the Stroudsburg barracks conducted a checkpoint on Route 209 in Monroe County Police stopped 180 motorists, resulting in seven impaired driving arrests and drug arrests. Citations were also issued for various traffic offenses.
• State police at the Lehighton barracks conducted a DUI checkpoint officers conducted from July 5-7 on roads in Carbon and Monroe counties:
Police said five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. Seven traffic citations were issued and five written warnings were given to drivers for motor vehicle.
