Florida man charged for explosives found in truck

A 46-year-old man from Frostproof, Florida, was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, on charges relating to police finding explosive devices inside his vehicle that was stopped on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township on July 5. The man was not named in the release.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said at about 10:18 p.m. on the above date, police conducted a traffic stop of a 2015 GMC Sierra that led to the discovery of the explosives.

The stop was made when police observed Motor Vehicle Code violations, after which time police determined the man was driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

Police said they received approval to search the vehicle which to them finding 13 improvised explosive devices inside the vehicle.

Police said members of the State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives section were summoned to the scene and took custody of the devices for further investigation while the driver was taken into custody.

Police said the incident is an isolated one and there is no danger of the public related to the incident.
