Mall Road traffic raises concern in Mahoning Twp.

Mahoning Township wants to make traveling safer by the Carbon Plaza Mall.

Township supervisors last week discussed the possible purchase of a sign for Mall Lane that would state no mall entrance, and discourage motorists from making a U-turn.

But, Supervisor Deb McGowan said she doesn’t believe that would make a difference.

“It’s a waste of money,” McGowan said. “Someone’s going to get killed. That middle lane is a disaster.”

Board Chairman Robert Slaw suggested that the township put a gate up and give it a month to see how things go.

“I agree; I don’t think it’s going to do anything,” Slaw said.

Supervisor Ronald Wenrich added, “It’s actually getting worse.”

Township roadmaster Nevin Frey mentioned that motorists don’t pay attention to the stop sign that was installed recently at Walmart.

Last month, supervisors granted permission for the Carbon Plaza to put a gate at the entrance of Mall Lane due to the influx of traffic entering and exiting the Carbon Plaza Mall via Mall Lane.
