N. Lehigh food bank gets grants for van

The Northern Lehigh Food Bank has received two grants from the Lions organizations.

The West Lehigh Area Lions - Follweiler Northwestern Community Foundation Inc. gave the food bank a grant for $6,000, and the Pennsylvania Lions Foundation gave them a matching grant for another $6,000.

With the help of Jason Williams and the staff at Amey’s Garage in Cherryville, the food bank was able to purchase a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The van is used to pick up food from the grocery stores and others who donate food.

Also, the van is used weekly to deliver food to people who are unable to get to the food bank for their monthly groceries.

For many years, prior to purchasing the van, volunteers used their private vehicles to pick up and deliver groceries.

The Borough of Slatington is donating fuel for the van. And Josh Dalrymple, of JKD Design LLC, volunteered his services to wrap the van with the Northern Lehigh Food Bank logo.
