Slatington Committee to sponsor ‘Another Trip Downtown’

It’s a lecture on the exploration of prominent buildings, businesses and people once located along the 200 block of Main Street in Slatington.

The Slatington History Preservation Committee will present “Another Trip Downtown” at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vigilant Fire Company, 110 S. Walnut St. in Slatington.

Robert Stettner, treasurer of the committee, said the highlights include the Messinger’s Bike Shop, The Snake Pit, Hallman’s Service Station, and Kramer’s Shoe Store.

Stettner said business ads, maps and photos will be shown along with the presentation. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.

He said the presentation will explore prominent buildings, businesses and people once located along the 200 block of Main Street in Slatington during the period between 1864-present.

“This presentation follows last year’s look at the 100 block of Main Street and further explores other prominent locations in Slatington and hopes people of all ages will attend to learn about their town’s history,” Stettner said. “We’ve added a PowerPoint along with the speakers that shows ads, pictures and maps of the buildings, businesses and people we are speaking about.”

Refreshments will also be available. The event is free and open to the public.
