State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:

• Taylor J. Napoleon, 29, of Burlington, New Jersey, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 7:44 p.m. May 13 on Interstate 81 in Foster Township.

Police said she was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla southbound when a deer entered the roadway. They said she could not avoid striking the animal which resulted in the engine compartment of the car to the extent that it had to be towed from the scene.

• John C. Knecht, 68, of Ashland, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 4:25 a.m. May 14 on Aristes Road, Union Township.

Police said he was driving a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek westbound when a deer entered the roadway. They said he cold not avoid striking the animal, resulting in damages that required the car to be towed from the scene.

• Janice A. Lavelle, 69, of Mahanoy City, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 9:08 a.m. May 20 on Lower Street in Mahanoy City.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the Mahanoy City Ambulance to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

They said she was driving a 2016 Subaru Outback south when she lost control on a left curve in the road. The car struck a legally-parked vehicle on the grass lot on the south side of the road, and a garage.

* Four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 4:55 p.m. May 20 on Route 209 in Schuylkill Township.

Transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale, were Jesse J. Mendes, 27, of Hazleton, Vanex Cadet, 36, and Carl Cadet, 33, both of Drums, and a 31-year-old woman from Drums who police did not identify. Police said they were transported to the hospital by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association and the extents of their injuries are unknown.

Police said the injured were in a 2002 Toyota Camry that was eastbound. The driver failed to come to a stop at a stop sign at Catawissa Street and entered the highway without clearance. It was struck by a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Anthony E. King, 54, of Cumbola. He and a passenger were uninjured.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The driver of the Camry was cited for driving while his license is suspended.

• Alejandro Martinez, 60, Hamburg, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 2:49 a.m. May 19 on Hawk Mountain Road in Albany Township.

Police said he was operating a 2021 Jeep westbound when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road. It traveled off the westbound lane, struck a tree, and was towed from the scene.

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:14 p.m. May 21 on Catawissa Road in Walker Township.

Police did not identify the driver of a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox that was northbound when the driver failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway. They said the car went off the right shoulder of the road, crashed into a ditch and continued onto the westbound shoulder before coming to rest. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

* Three people were transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale, by personnel from the Lehighton and McAdoo ambulances after a crash at 6:31 p.m. May 15 at the intersection of Route 309 and Fairview Street in Hometown, Rush Township.

A17-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, both from Brockton, and Latangia E. Turner, 58, of Summit Hill, were transported.

Police said the crash occurred when the girl, driving a 2008 Mazda, northbound on Route 309 turned left into the path of a 2012 Toyota Prius driven by Turner.

Police said the girl was cited for “vehicle turning left.”
