Washington Township supervisors

Lehigh County Executive Phil Armstrong visited the Washington Township meeting Tuesday night to provide a county update.

There is no tax increase this year, he told people.

Armstrong is working on getting new radios for all Lehigh County firefighters. There is a mandate that by 2026 Lehigh County radio will be switching to a digital radio network. He is working with Susan Wild for a grant to help pay for the radios, which cost $6,000 to $7,000 a piece. There are 25 municipalities in Lehigh County.

Joe Mead, Emergency Management Coordinator for Washington Township, provided an update on the Emergency Operation Plan.

Mead said, “In the next few weeks we will be looking into options for Shelters and warming/cooling centers in the township, as well as options for an Emergency Operation Center should the need arise.” In other business, the board released the $1,000 budgeted for the Friedens Athletic Association.

• The board will advertise for 2024 summer help position.

• The board approve using COVID funds for Eagles Nest Park to apply acrylic patch to fix cracks in tennis court for $2,180, repaint the lines on the tennis court and add lines for pickleball for $1,920.

• The outfield of the baseball field at Eagles Nest will be used for a field hockey clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20-24.

• The township will get bids to make the walking path wider at Eagles Nest.
