All three area teams in action on the diamond suffered losses on Friday

BASEBALL

Mt. Carmel-Tamaqua

Mt. Carmel edged Tamaqua, 6-4, in a non-league game.

Gavin Lasko had two home runs and three RBIs to lead the Red Tornadoes. Gabe Yuskoski and Drew Yagodzinskie both had two hits with one of Yagodzinskie’s a home run.

For Tamaqua, Mason Ligenza had three hits, including a double, and scored a run. Luke Kane and Lucas Kamant both added two hits and a run scored. Kane also knocked in a run.

The loss drops Tamaqua’s record to 12-6. Mt. Carmel improves to 11-4.

Logan Kessler fired a complete-game one-hitter and struck out seven as Southern Lehigh cruised to a 9-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Eli Calaba had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Spartans offensively. Luke Kawczenski added two hits and scored three times.

Brayden Tocci’s two-out, fifth-inning single was the Bulldogs’ only hit.

Southern Lehigh improves to 12-5 overall and 11-4 in the league. Northern Lehigh falls to 3-14 overall and 3-11 in league play.

A pair of unearned runs in the top of the first inning was all the scoring as Southern Lehigh edged Northern Lehigh, 2-0, in Colonial League play.

A two-out RBI double by Morghan Davies that was sandwiched between a pair of infield errors produced the game’s lone runs.

Delaney Young fired a three-hitter and struck out one in seven shutout innings for the Spartans (8-9, 8-6).

For the Bulldogs (10-5, 7-5), Emma Smith was stellar in a losing effort, allowing just three hits and striking out six. Offensively, Kylee Snyder singled and stole a base.
