Kunkletown man involved in 4-vehicle turnpike crash

A Kunkletown man who was driving one of four vehicles that were involved in a crash at 6:59 a.m. April 15 on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike escaped injuries after his truck flipped onto its side.

State police at the King of Prussia barracks said it happened at mile marker 39 in West Rockhill Township.

Police said the local man, Anthony P. Mitchell, 62, and Rodney O. Davenport, 38, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, were cited after the crash.

Police said the accident happened when Michael R. Gorman, 57, of New Hope, operating a 2017 Ford F550, traveling south, began to merge onto the right shoulder of the road while a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia, which was traveling behind Gorman’s vehicle, driven by Davenport, attempted to avoid colliding with the F550 and merged into the left lane before coming to a stop.

Police said the F550 came to a stop behind a 2016 Kenworth T880 driven by Todd M. Flyte, 55, of Blakeslee. Mitchell, traveling in the left lane, began to tip, traveled onto the shoulder of the road and struck the F550 before rolling onto its side and dumping a load of rocks on the roadway.

Police said Gorman and a passenger, Roger L. Janney, 57, of Fleetwood, were injured in the crash and were transported by personnel from the Upper Perkiomen Valley Ambulance Association to the Grandview Hospital, Sellersville. Police said the severity of their injuries in unknown.

Police said Mitchell and Davenport were cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
