Fire damages home Sunday in Saylorsburg

No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a home early Sunday morning in Monroe County,

Leon Clapper, fire chief, Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder, said firefighters were dispatched at 6:37 a.m. to a fire at 1546 Brian Drive, Saylorsburg.

Clapper said the fire appears to have started in the rear of the home along the chimney, took into the roof and into the attic, and burned the roof off.

He said the family were awakened by their smoke alarm. Clapper said no one was injured.

“The guys went into the house, climbed through the steps and made an internal attack, and that saved everything from coming down,” Clapper said.

However, he said the house sustained water and smoke damage throughout.

Clapper said the family is staying with relatives.

He said it took about two hours to get the fire under control.

Clapper said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

He said also assisting at the scene were the West End Ambulance, West End Fire Company, and Polk Township Fire Company.
