Coroner releases ID in Monroe County fire

The identity of a man who died in a house fire in Monroe County Thursday morning has been released.

Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac Jr. identified the man as Daniel J. McGuire, 44, of Hamilton Township.

Yanac said McGuire was pronounced dead at 4:05 a.m. that morning at the scene of the home on the North Easton Belmont Pike.

He said the cause of death is pending.

Yanac said the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Firemen and police responded to the house fire at 2:17 a.m. Thursday.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said the man was located deceased in the home.

A woman was pulled from the burning structure and was transported by emergency medical services personnel to the Lehigh Valley Regional Burn Center.

Police also said responding troopers who made entry to the home and pulled the woman from it sustained minor injuries and were treated at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus, Stroudsburg.

Police said the home was fully engulfed in flames when they and firemen responded. They said officers could hear yelling from within the residence which prompted their entry to the premises to rescue the woman.

McGuire was found in the home after the blaze was extinguished, police said.
