Berezwick steps down as Lehighton girls basketball coach

Joe Berezwick has decided to step down as Lehighton’s head girls basketball coach.

The announcement was released Friday by Indian Athletic Director Kyle Spotts.

Berezwick led the Lehighton girls the past seven seasons, compiling a record of 69-90 including a 12-11 mark this past season. During those seven years, his teams reached the district playoffs three times.

His 2022 squad gained an upset win over Northwestern in the postseason - the program’s first district playoff victory in 25 years, while the 15 wins compiled by his 2017-18 squad were the most since the 1996-97 team went 17-9.

Before arriving at Lehighton, Berezwick coached at Tamaqua for 18 years and posted a 277-183 mark. With the Blue Raiders, he had five 20-plus win seasons and guided the program to three district championships - tied for the second most among area girls coaches. His 2010-11 squad won 28 games, tied for the most (with Jim Thorpe in 2021-22) among area girls teams over the past 15 seasons.
