Tamaqua news

Barbershop Chorus

The Coalcracker Barbershop Chorus invites folks to attend its practices to learn, listen, and sing along. The group practices from 7:30-9 p.m. every Monday at the Tamaqua Arts Center and is looking to expand so it can perform at more community events and share the gift of barbershop singing.

No strings attached. No cost. No commitment. If you like to sing by yourself, you will be amazed at the power of singing with a group in harmony.

The group is open to men, women, boys and girls high-school age and older.

Tamaqua street sweeper

Tamaqua borough recently began street sweeping. A copy of the schedule is available on the borough’s Facebook page and website.

The permanently posted streets that are cleaned every Thursday and Friday include East and West Broad, Berwick, Center, Pine, North and South Railroad Streets and portions of Nescopec, Mauch Chunk and Swatara Streets.

Streets will be posted the day before sweeping is scheduled. Drivers are reminded that they must move their vehicles from the posted areas. Vehicles that remain on the posted streets will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Property owners and residents are encouraged to clean their sidewalks the day before their street is cleaned. Street sweeping will continue as needed, and the schedule is subject to change depending on work schedules and weather conditions.
