NL gets $25K donation for STEAM Camp

A local business has once again risen to the occasion to assist a summer camp for students in the Northern Lehigh School District.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link reported to the school board on Monday that earlier in the day, he joined Lori Geronikos, the president of the Northern Lehigh Educational Foundation, at Neffs National Bank.

Link said the district received a check in the amount of $25,000 from bank President Kevin Schmidt and his staff.

“The extremely generous donation is part of the Educational Improvement Tax Credit program for business to support nonprofits, such as our education foundation,” Link said. “The Foundation plans to use the donation to support the Northern Lehigh Summer STEAM Camp.”

Schmidt said that Neffs National Bank “is proud to participate in the EITC program.”

“This is a great opportunity for the local businesses to earmark their state tax dollars to stay local and directly benefit our Northern Lehigh community,” Schmidt said. “I would strongly encourage all of our business to support the EITC program and the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation.”

STEAM Summer Camp provides students with student-centered, project-based and inquiry-driven opportunities to investigate careers, conduct experiments, and expand their understanding of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

The camp is for students in grades 3 to 6 at Slatington Elementary School, and grades 7 to 8 at Northern Lehigh Middle School.
