CCEEC to hold tick program on April 17

On Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m., the Carbon County Environmental Education Center invites everyone to a free program on ticks - the types found in our area and the disease threats that different species might pose to people and their pets.

“Tick Talk” will be presented by Nicole Chinnici, director of East Stroudsburg University’s Dr. Jane Huffman Wildlife Genetics Institute. The institute houses a tick diagnostic lab, capable of testing for 17 different tick-borne pathogens.

Dr. Chinnici will help all outdoor enthusiasts, such as hikers and gardeners, identify common tick species they might encounter. She will outline the risks of a bite, and explain the tick testing submission procedures and services that the Institute offers to the public.

The program is free of charge, but registration by phone is required. Call 570-645-8597 to re-serve a spot.

The Center is located in Summit Hill, at the west end of Mauch Chunk Lake Park, just outside Jim Thorpe along Lentz Trail.
