A touch of Good Karma

“Hippies use back door, no exceptions.”

That’s the sign Good Karma Hippie Shop in Palmerton has on the door. The store, opened in 2021, expanded in December with a lot more unique and cool finds.

Nineteen-year old Abigail Ulshafer and her grandmother, Tonie Strohl, own the store.

Strohl’s sister owned the adjacent store, “This and That Antiques” and when she closed her business it was a perfect opportunity to expand.

Strohl has 30 years of retail experience and they have always talked about owning a store together.

Walk into the familiar scent of incense and candles. In addition to jewelry, one-of-a-kind clothing, stickers and patches you can find tie-dyes handmade by Strohl. If you have particular colors you’d like to see in a tie-dye ask her about making one just for you.

Ulshafer recently began selling jewelry that she makes. She plans to start selling homemade lotions and sprays.

Products include clothes made in India and Mexico to crystals from Colorado. Strohl noted, “We choose our products based on what we see people liking. We try to have a variety everyone is interested in and nostalgia for all ages.”

Speaking of nostalgia, the store expanded the vinyl section as there’s been a resurgence of interest in records.

Good old fashioned smiley faces abound, a symbol before there were emojis.

Several vendors show their wares in the store. The plan is to expand even further to have more vendors selling their one of a kind products.

A used clothing section was also added.

If you’re looking for clothes, jewelry, candles, crystals, stickers, patches, incense or unique gifts, stop by. A recent customer was reminiscing about his experience at Woodstock. In addition to repeat customers Ulshafer noted they have people come from out of state after viewing their Facebook page.

When asked the challenging question, “What is a hippie to you?” Ulshafer responded, “A grounded soul or energy that gives out serenity and love.”
