April 4, 1974 - Gary Evans collects two hits, scores a run and knocks in one to help Panther Valley gain a 5-3 victory over Freeland MMI in its season opener. Greg Whitehead earns the victory, pitching five innings and striking out five. The Panthers, coached by Bob Gelatko, receive a double and a run from Gary Higgins, while Ben Arthur adds an RBI single. The winners also get a hit and a run from Frank Jacobs, Whitehead and “Chipper” Porambo. Joe Hedash, who knocks in a run with a sacrifice fly, earns a save by getting the final batter on a strikeout to end an MMI last-inning threat.
