Panther Valley picked up baseball and softball victories over Weatherly on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Weatherly-Panther Valley

Panther Valley took advantage of an 11-run third inning to cruise to a 16-1 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Weatherly.

Tyler Black had a double and three RBIs in the decisive inning for the Panthers (2-0 overall; 2-0 SL). Brady Jones added a two-run triple, Stephen Hood chipped in with an RBI double, and Hayden Goida singled home a run.

For the game, Jones had three hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs, while Eric Breiner added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Ben Baneravage was the winning pitcher. He worked three innings and allowed no runs and one hit, while striking out six.

For Weatherly (0-4, 0-2), Bradlee Connors had a hit and scored his team’s lone run.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain posted a 6-2 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

A two-run single by Aidan Grace and an RBI single from Colton Liebold were the big blows in a three-run Eagles’ fourth inning that snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted them to the win.

Grace and Liebold both had two hits and two RBIs for Blue Moutnain (3-0 overall, 1-0 league).

For the Olympians (1-3, 0-2), Michael Antignani had two singles and an RBI. Jack Edwards and Owen Hubbard both added doubles.

SOFTBALL

Weatherly-Panther Valley

An eight-run fifth inning lifted Panther Valley to a season-opening 10-2 Schuylkill League win over visiting Weatherly.

Ava Alabovitz had a strong outing in the pitching circle for the Panthers, tossing a three-hitter and striking out 11.

Morgan O’Brien’s two-run homer was the big hit in Panther Valley’s huge fifth inning. Kyla McQuillen, Morgan Orsulak, Lucy Greco and Alabovitz also added RBIs in the frame.

For the game, Mikayla Yuricheck had two hits and a run scored for the Panthers (1-0, 1-0).

Abby Binder paced the Wreckers (2-3, 0-2) with a single and a run scored.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

A 13-run opening inning sparked Blue Mountain to a 17-1 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

Avery Hudock had the big bat for the Eagles (4-0 overall; 1-0 league) with a home run, a single, two runs scored and five RBIs. Madison Heim added two hits and scored twice.

Mara Levins led the Olympians (3-2; 0-2) with a single, a double and an RBI. Madison Schwartz added a double.
