Local Roundup: Results from March 25

Northwestern used a strong performance from Emma Freeman to gain a softball win over Hamburg on Monday.

Also posting a win was the Pleasant Valley tennis team.

SOFTBALL

Hamburg-Northwestern

A big game from Emma Freeman helped Northwestern gain a 4-2 non-league victory over Hamburg.

Freeman went the distance in the circle, scattering 10 hits while striking out 11.

At the plate, she finished with two hits - one a home run - and collected four RBIs.

The Tigers, who remained undefeated at 4-0, also received a 4-for-4 effort from Abby Dunstan. One of Dunstan’s hits was a triple, and she added two runs and two RBIs.

Others contributing to the win included Sage Toman (two hits, one run), Isabelle Akelaitis (three hits, one a double, two runs) and Shelby Mittman (two hits, one a double).

Liberty-Pleasant Valley

Samantha Kurinovich’s two-run single in the sixth inning snapped a tie score and lifted Liberty to a 4-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Liberty.

The Hurricanes grabbed an early 2-0 advantage when Addison Sabo blasted a two-run homer in the first inning.

The Bears knotted the score in the home second when Sam Ratti also connected for a two-run shot. The homer scored Brianca Pridham, who singled to open the frame.

PV, now 2-1, received singles from Jovi Valenzuela and Lydia Borger.

The win upped Liberty to 2-1.

BOYS TENNIS

Pleasant Valley-Whitehall

Pleasant Valley swept singles and doubles action to gain a 6-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Whitehall.

The Bears, now 4-3, won every match in straight sets.

John Hargrave, Noah Dolan and Ben Keppel provided the wins in singles play.

The loss dropped Whitehall to 1-5.

BASEBALL

Liberty-Pleasant Valley

Noah Gyauch-Quirk pitched a two-hitter to lead Liberty to a 13-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

Gyauch-Quirk struck out nine and didn’t walk any to help the Hurricanes remain undefeated at 3-0.

Braylen Gonzalez led off the game with a home run as the winners scored five times in the opening inning, while Franklin Pichardo added a pair of hits and three RBIs.

For the Bears, now 2-2, Dakoda Lucas and Chase Borger both had a hit and an RBI.
