Pleasant Valley Elementary holds basket raffle, bingo in remembrance of late community member

Tickets to the bingo are sold out, but that doesn’t mean you can’t come out a big winner at the Inaugural Designer Purse Bingo Fundraiser held in memory of Stephanie Pfancook.

Brittany Angelica, one of the event organizers, said there are more than 250 regular ticket baskets and 12 big ticket item baskets available to the community.

“Our baskets include massages, lottery trees, cash, giant waterslide blow ups, week stay at a condo in Myrtle Beach, black-stone grill, Kalahari tickets and much more,” Angelica said. “We may have sold out of bingo tickets, but you are more than welcome to come support our fund and buy raffle tickets. You do not need to be present to win.”

Doors will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Pleasant Valley Elementary School, where she was a secretary. Basket winners will be selected around 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the Stephanie Pfancook Memorial Fund.

Matthew Pfancook, Stephanie’s husband, said they started the memorial fund to give back to the community in the form of scholarships.

“Community is what Stephanie stood for, giving as much of her time as she could,” he said. “It is our hopes that we can also support families in the community who may not have enough income to sign up their children for youth programs by offering grants to certain programs.”

Alongside her husband, Stephanie was active in the West End Little League as a coach and team sponsor. She also was a coach for Pleasant Valley Youth Association basketball and Cubs cheerleading.

“Stephanie Rose Pfancook was one of a kind, a true pillar in this community,” her husband said. “She would have been overwhelmed with love from the community response and support. She probably would not be able to believe that we sold out of bingo tickets in less the 48 hours.”

Stephanie passed away in December at the age of 38, just eight months after being diagnosed with colon cancer. She leaves behind a loving husband and three young daughters.

“Stephanie lived every day for her family and friends, always putting everyone else first,” Pfancook said. “Stephanie had the biggest heart, a beautiful smile, and the greatest laugh. Stephanie was infectious in every way possible. To know Stephanie was a true blessing.”

“When working at Lehigh Valley Hospital Network at a young age, Stephanie cared deeply about every patient she took care of. Stephanie’s commitment and love for her students and staff at Pleasant Valley Elementary made going to work enjoyable and exciting every day. She was always planning family and friends’ gatherings, making sure everyone had somewhere to go for the holidays. Stephanie loved being the hostess and never asked for anything in return. She never wanted recognition, just did whatever needed to be done without hesitation. She was truly one of a kind that will never be replaced.”

“Due to Stephanie’s passing only a short time ago, this is our first event. We have taken a lot of time to plan this special event for the community in order to keep Stephanie’s Love and Light glowing forever,” Pfancook said.

The organizers hope the event will grow bigger each year and become an annual event.

“Our community is filled with wonderful strong supportive women and we wanted to award them with a chance to win some wonderful purses,” he said.

The group may even add more events as ideas for them pop up. The best way to stay up to date on future events is to go to the “SRP Memorial Page” on Facebook. They are also working on a website.

As for this event, Angelica said there has been amazing community support and donations from individuals and more than 50 businesses. Some of her sponsors Breadzone, Mignosi Foodtown, Kinsleys ShopRite, Dermadox, William H. Kresge Funeral Home, and food sponsors such as, Moes southwest grill, Red Robin, Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse and Relli’s Deli.
