Man flown from ATV crash near Lansford

A 45-year-old man from Nesqueshoning was flown to a regional trauma center after rolling his all-terrain vehicle near Lansford Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters from Summit Hill and Lansford responded to the 3:50 p.m. crash, reported behind the Panther Valley School District complex.

Fire crews split up to search the area, as the victim was riding with four other men on the mining company’s main haul road between Nesquehoning and Tamaqua, when the crash happened, Summit Hill Assistant Fire Chief Ronnie Yuricheck said.

The victim was not wearing a helmet and speed was involved, Yuricheck said. He suffered two cuts on his head and could not remember the crash due to the head injury, Yuricheck said.

A medical helicopter landed the school soccer field behind the intermediate school to fly the victim to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Lansford Fire Chief Joe Greco.

Summit Hill police and Lehigh Anthracite security were also on scene. The coal company impounded all of the all-terrain vehicles in the riding party, as they were trespassing on private property, Yuricheck said.

The actual site of the crash was closer to Andrewsville, he said.
