Pleasant Valley’s Kashner to receive Hall of Fame honors

Longtime Pleasant Valley baseball coach Jeff Kashner will be inducted into the Lehigh Valley-Pocono Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Along with Kashner, Olympic gymnast Kristen Maloney (Pen Argyl), basketball star Billy McCaffrey (Allentown Central Catholic), ESU basketball coach Jeff Wilson and wrestling official Gary Kessel (ESU) will also be inducted.

Football play-by-play announcer Bill Zimpfer (Freedom) will receive the John Kunda Memorial Media Award during his induction, while high school football coach Bob Stem (Phillipsburg) and ESU wrestling coach Clyde “Red” Witman will be inducted posthumously.

The chapter’s dinner and induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 11 at the Northampton Banquet and Event Center in Northampton.

Kashner guided the Bears for 26 seasons and registered 344 victories. The highlight of his career was a 41-game regular-season win streak, started by his 2000 team and continued into the 2001 campaign.

His PV squads in 1982 and 1984 both won District 11 Class 2A titles, with the 1984 team finishing fourth in the state.

Kashner was a two-time conference coach of the year and was also named a District 11 athletic director of the year.
