Teen charged with handgun threat, LCTI had lockdown as precaution

A 17-year-old boy is in custody, accused of assaulting his mother, stealing a gun from the family’s home in Breinigsville and making threats against the Lehigh County Technical Institute.

The Upper Macungie Township Police Department said officers were called to the home in the 8800 block of Max Way in Green Acres Mobile Home Park in Breinigsville just before noon on Tuesday. The teen’s mother said he assaulted her and possibly took a handgun from the home. She said he also made threats to harm family members.

With the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, the Upper Macungie Police searched the area but could not locate the teen.

At approximately 3 p.m. police received a tip that the juvenile had been seen walking in the mobile home park.

Officers took him into custody and found the gun nearby.

During this incident there was a concern that the teen made comments against LCTI, which resulted in a lockdown.

Later it was determined threats were only made against his family.

Police said the teen will be charged with theft, possession of a firearm by a minor and harassment.
