11 dogs adopted from shelter

Carbon County’s annual Love a Dog for Life campaign helped nearly a dozen canines find forever homes.

On Thursday, Commissioners’ Chairman Michael Sofranko reported that during the month of February, 11 dogs were adopted. This helped both the animals, as well as the staff at the shelter who care for the animals.

The number of dogs at the shelter fluctuates, with enough space for approximately 16 dogs. Prior to the adoption month, the shelter was operating at capacity.

Sofranko said that it was good to see the animals finding homes.

In addition, he said that the county received another $5,000 donation for use at the dog shelter.

This brings the total donated by various members of the community to nearly $25,000.

A big portion of that was donated to create a new space where potential adopters could go and meet the dog they are hoping will be their new family member.

“You hear all the time that without donations, it makes it hard to run, but they (the staff) do an awesome job and they are moving ahead with adoptions,” Sofranko said.
